In-Character Information
Name : Parakarry Paretta
Game/Series: Paper Mario
Age & Teaching Position: 20, Delivery Store Owner
Living Arrangements: Dorm plz
Personality: Parakarry is a sweet person but a bit on the shy side. He’s polite toward others and often acts like a big brother figure around younger students and close friends. He is on the overprotective side, often fretting over the safety of his loved ones and nags at his friends when they do something reckless or life threatening. He feels like he needs to be the level-headed one among his group of friends and watch out for the others to make sure they don’t stray into trouble.
Parakarry himself normally doesn‘t like to jump into situations without thinking it through properly and avoids petty fights. But when someone he cares about is in need of assistance or in danger, he gathers up his all of his courage and sticks by their side to the bitter end.
Parakarry is a responsible person who feels nothing can ever be achieved without hard work. When Parakarry sets out a goal for himself, he puts his entire heart into completing it. While he’s more easy to coax into going out to have fun and socialize than he was last year, Parakarry still firmly separates work from play and never slacks off. He can get completely absorbed in his work though, often forgetting little things like where he left certain objects or losing directions. But big things such as special occasions or the promises he made to others are things he never forgets.
When depressed, Parakarry becomes quiet and keeps to himself for a period of time. He usually doesn’t like discussing his problems with others and bottles his emotions, pretending to be okay. He is a little more open though with close friends now and will discuss with them at least how he feels but he doesn’t expect them to fix everything for him. He feels that it’s else’s fault but his own when things go wrong in his life and that its only his responsibility to fix things. Once he calms down, he places all effort to correct the problems in his life.
Backstory
Before coming to Sumabura, Parakarry lived and studied in Toad Town where he worked as a mailman for the local post office but secretly dreamed of owning his own delivery business.
His parents didn’t really like the fact that he was a mailman, feeling it was a tedious and burden-filled job. They wanted Parakarry to go to college and eventually run the family-owned pharmacy.
Parakarry was a dilligent worker but he often lost letters during his route. One day while looking for some letters he lost on Mount Rugged, Parakarry ran into Mario and his friends who were out rescuing the Star Spirits. They helped Parakarry find his missing mail and in gratitude he joined their team. Together, the group saved the Star Spirits from Bowser and recovered the Star Rod. Parakarry would grow so attached to these new friends, that he started considering them as a second family and was heartbroken when they finally separated.
Meanwhile, a pamphlet arrived in the Parettas’s mailbox, advertising Sumabura. Feeling this would get Parakarry going back on the “right” path, his parents filled out an application. When Parakarry returned from his adventure, he was given the surprise that he got accepted to a school he didn’t even apply to. Before Parakarry knew it, he started his Junior year at Sumabura. It was a dismal time for him. He was still reeling from saying goodbye to the first real group of friends he ever had. His new boss at FDC’s post office constantly treated Parakarry with disrespect and he felt even more pressured by his parents to succeed academically. Eventually Parakarry cracked to the pressure and his grades began to slip, ultimately failing to graduate his senior year. Disappointing his parents and feeling like a total failure, Parakarry developed an inferiority complex and withdrew from the world.
His second attempt to complete Senior year was marked by odd events, including a mass brainwashing, finding out his secret crush was a lesbian among other things. Through it all, Parakarry began to pull himself of his state of self-pity. He slowly began to socialize and participate in events. Some of his old traveling enrolled and helped pull Parakarry out of his rut. Slowly with the encouragement of others, Parakarry began to gain self confidence, beginning to realize his hopes and dreams weren’t so stupid. Finally by the time he visited home on Christmas, he finally stood up to his parents and told him he was opening his delivery business regardless of what they said. This resulted in a huge argument that ended with Parakarry and his parents stop speaking to each other. After some cooling down, Parakarry attempted to make peace by delivering a letter right before the Aparoid War which he helped fight valiently in.
After the war there would be some good news and some bad news in store for him. The good news was that shortly after the war, Parakarry received a phone call from his parents. After much talking, the three apologized to each other and Parakarry’s parents promised to give them their full support to pursue his dream. That was the good news. The bad news was that during the war, the post office got demolished from the fighting, leaving him jobless.
After being upset for a while,Parakarry decided to see this as a blessing in disguise. After much work, Parakarry was able to get what was once Shabunga’s student store and turned it into a courier business that offers delivery services to Sumabura’s students and doubles as a store that sells postal related items.
Anything Else?
Will gladly help chaparone field trips and student events.
He's NOT the stork!
Has a pet Kargorok named Ribbon he got from Jolene’s class. He’s now training her to help him with his deliveries.
Due to some bad experiences on the job, he’s developed a tiny fear of small dog breeds such as Chihuahuas and Pomeranians. Oddly, he isn’t scared in the least bit of medium and large breeds. Nor is he afraid of dog-like pokemon
